  • Year 4 Art

Fri 31 Jan 2020 Mrs Wilkins

This half term, Year 4 have been learning about the work of Brazilian artist Beatriz Milhazes.  Her artwork is inspired by nature and the beauty that surrounds us.  With an art studio next to the Jardim Botanico (botanical gardens), in Rio de Janiero, a lot of her designs include images of the plants and flowers that grow there.  She uses all kinds of materials to create collages which include abstract patterns and floral motifs.

We learnt about abstract art and the effective use of complementary colours, as well as developing our drawing and cutting skills. We created our own collages, inspired by Milhazes work.

  • Year 4 St Faith's Maths Challenge

Fri 31 Jan 2020 Mrs Wilkins
This afternoon, four Year 4 pupils represented The Vine School in a Mathematics Challenge at St Faith's School, Cambridge.  Working in pairs, they solved a range of maths puzzles and problems, some of which were very tricky!  They showed great enthusiasm throughout the challenge, were extremely focused and demonstrated strong team work skills.  Afterwards, they each talked about how much fun it had been and how proud they were of themselves and each other.  Mrs Wilkins was also very proud of them!  Each pupil left with a certificate, a smile on their face and great memories of a fun and challenging afternoon.
  • Year 1 Walk to the Nature Reserve

Wed 22 Jan 2020 Cathy Manning
Year 1 walked to the nature reserve on the hunt for signs of winter.  It was a beautiful, bright sunny afternoon so we felt very lucky after all the rain last week!  We talked about how winter changes the landscape, especially the plants.  We identified evergreen and deciduous trees and did some careful observational drawings of twigs back in the classroom.
  • Year 1 blast off to the Moon!

Mon 13 Jan 2020 Hannah Bennett
In Year 1 we are learning about the Moon. So we decided that we would go to visit. We dressed up in our space suits, boarded the shuttle and took off to the Moon. Once we arrived we explored the surface and collected moon rocks to take back to Earth. Next week we will be learning about the Moon landing.
