Week 2 - w/c 11th January

Welcome Back!

Week Commencing 11th January.

Hello Year 6! How are you? We hope you had a wonderful weekend.

We are so proud of the way that you have all settled back into remote learning so quickly - you are superstars! It was great to speak to you all via School Cloud/phone call last week and we can't wait to speak to you again this week, please look out for an email link or phone call from us. Thank you for your lovely emails last week too, you have already produced some fantastic learning.

This week, following government guidelines, the amount of learning that we expect has increased slightly. You must complete at least 4 hours of learning per day:

1 hour English lesson

1 hour Maths lesson

1 hour Foundation Subjects lesson

1 hour additional tasks (daily CGP book, times tables, spellings, reading etc. as outlined on the main Y6 page).

Don't forget to listen to the next chapter of Street Child every day too!

We also have additional PE videos (30 minutes) to be completed at least twice a week, and Joe Wicks is back so try to tune in on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Mrs Lee has also put lots of exciting additional tasks on the Aspiration Enrichment page for you to check out.

We have got some great learning planned for you this week and we can't wait to see what you produce - don't forget to email us twice a week.

Here is a weekly update letter for you where you can see what we have been up to over the weekend...

Friday 15th January 2021

It's Friday! We made it! Well done Year 6, another week of remote school done. We are so proud of how hard you are all working and how focused you are; you are smashing it! You have produced some fantastic learning this week, we hope you have enjoyed the tasks that we set. Have an amazing weekend everyone!

COMPETITION TME!!! This week's competition is... Fancy Dress Friday! We would like you to dress up in your craziest outfit today whilst you do your learning. Take a picture of yourself in your crazy clothes and email it to us by lunchtime. We are looking for the craziest outfits to crown our winners. Check back at the end of the day to see who has won.

We decided to have a go too! Here we are on our zoom call (we had everything from scuba divers to witches wearing sunglasses, Mrs Thompson even managed to turn herself invisible!)...

WINNERS!!! Wow! We were so impressed by your fancy dress outfits today. We had a range of crazy costumes from dinosaurs and tigers, to cave men and monsters. The red wigs were also very popular. Well done to everyone who got involved, we hope it made you smile as much as us. It was such a hard choice today but we have chosen our winners.

Our top 6 remote winners are... Sam, Sophia, Jacob, Abdul, Finley and Jack. A big shout out too to Kian and Bella (and Mrs T and Mrs L) in school who are our key worker winners this week (they probably gave the school quite a shock this morning). Congratulations!

English (1 hour of learning):

Friday is spelling and grammar day, starting with your weekly spelling test on the prefix words you learnt last week. Then, after completing the next two pages in your CGP Spelling SAT Buster (if you haven't already done so), you can move on to today's grammar lesson, which focuses on determiners.

Please watch the spelling video lesson first and follow the instructions, before doing the same with the determiners video lesson.

Maths (1 hour of learning):

Today you will be learning about decimals as fractions, but first you will need to mark your arithmetic paper. There is also the place value chart which may help you with today's learning. Remember there are challenges at the end for you to try if you have time, good luck!

Art (1 hour of learning):

In Art today, you are going to continue to develop your skills with perspective drawing, learning how to create your own guidelines to help you add 3D buildings to a perspective landscape. Please watch the video and pause it when prompted, to allow you time to follow each step. Enjoy getting creative and don't forget to share your drawings with us!

Thursday 14th January 2021

Don't forget to follow the success criteria to ensure that your answers are full and complete. Let's see if the song gets stuck in your head all day!

Please watch the video first, then open and read the lyrics PDF when prompted. The answers to Tasks B and C are at the end of the slides, also attached below. Have fun!
