  • Momo Challenge

    Thu 28 Feb 2019 E. Bright

Many of you may have heard of the Momo Challenge which is being spread via WhatsApp and Youtube. The Momo Challenge is a form of cyberbullying where children receive threats from an anonymous number accompanied by an image of Momo, a strange-looking woman with bulging eyes, a thin-lipped smile and long, black hair. The challenge forces children who received the message to undertake dangerous tasks, which have allegedly included suicide, and threatening them with violence if they do not comply. This has been whipped up by some sections of the media and much of the reporting on it has been alarmist and inaccurate, repeating rumours and unsubstantiated claims about its spread and impact.

Some children have begun to discuss the Momo Challenge in and out of school so we have a poster to download in the E-Safety section of the Vine website which contains helpful advice about how to approach it if the subject should come up in discussions with your children.

A strange and mysterious sign has appeared on the door in Year 1. We wonder who could have written it?

  • Year 1 welcome an 'Out of this World' visitor!

Wed 13 Feb 2019 Hannah Bennett
We were so lucky to have Sam visit us in Year 1 today. He is an engineer who builds rockets and satellites which are sent into space. He talked to us about how he helps to make these and showed us some of the materials and equipment he uses. We all learnt lots, even the adults, and really enjoyed his visit. Thank you Sam!
  • Year 1 Nature Reserve

    Tue 12 Feb 2019 L Richardson
We braved the gusty wind to visit the Nature Reserve on Thursday to look for signs of winter. We also thought about how the Nature Reserve had changed since our last visit in the autumn. Amber Class observed that there were no berries this time, and also recalled seeing a man having a picnic in the autumn.  Unsurprisingly, there wasn't anyone picnicking in February!
  • Garden Club visit to Cambourne Village College

    Fri 08 Feb 2019

On a frosty winter day, pupils from year 5 Garden Club enjoyed a visit to Cambourne Village College during Golden time. We were welcomed by Mrs Teo, Joshua and Bailey who introduced us to the RHS awards which they have been working towards from year 7. There are 5 levels in the awards which include learning skills such as planning a garden project and using tools safely. Some pupils at CVC are currently working towards their level 5 award where pupils share their garden with the local community and pass on their skills to others. Joshua and Bailey described how they had worked through different levels of the award, planning their school garden and using the produce in recipes such as cooking soup and bread.

We were taken on a tour of the college raised beds and polytunnel where we harvested winter salad leaves. Joshua and Bailey helped us to sow Pepper, Nasturtium and Pea seeds in egg boxes, which we took home.

We would like to thank everyone at Cambourne Village College who made our visit so enjoyable.

  • Fun in the snow!

Mon 04 Feb 2019 Mrs Richardson
It was so exciting to see a fairly decent amount of snow across Cambourne on Friday, and the pupils made the most of their breaktime building snowmen, making snow angels and generally having fun in the snow!
