Welcome to Year 2!

We are very excited to be working with our pupils and yourselves during the year. 

Our team consists of 4 staff. Mrs Mitchell - Emerald class teacher, Mrs Bennett  - Jade class teacher (Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri) Miss Cornwell Jade class teacher (Mon, Wed and Thurs) and Mrs Brown (Full time).

PE Days

PE for Year 2 is on a Friday in the hall. Please remember to ask your child to wear the correct PE uniform on these days. PE uniform consists of a plain navy T-shirt, plain navy jogging bottoms and a plain navy sweatshirt. Shorts can be worn in warmer weather. Trainers should be worn to school on PE days. Long hair must be tied back and jewellery removed before school these days.  

Reading

In Year 2 the expectation still remains that your child should read 5 times each week. All pupils will have either a RWI book which they have read in phonics or an Accelerated Reader book which they can change when needed. They can also continue to bring home a Bedtime Story book which they can change in class as needed. If you have any queries or concerns regarding your child's reading please contact a member of the team.  Please see below for websites and resources which you can access to support your child's reading. 

Spellings

Pupils will be tested weekly on their spellings. New spellings will be set via Spelling Shed on a Monday ready to be learnt by Friday for our weekly test. Please note that paper copies of spellings will no longer be sent home on a weekly basis. Should you have any issues with accessing Spelling Shed please do not hesitate to contact us. Please encourage your child to practise their spellings throughout the week.

Maths

We will continue to use the Maths No Problem scheme during our daily maths lessons. In addition to this we will also have a daily Maths Mastery lesson which will focus on strengthening pupils' basic skills, mental recall and reasoning skills.  Below you will find links to the Maths No Problem parent section where there are some useful videos. Please note that these videos do not all relate to the Year 2 curriculum but to the scheme as a whole. 

Forest School

Year 2 will have Forest Schools every Tuesday afternoon. Your child will need wellies, waterproof trousers and coats each week,  and warm layers once the weather turns colder.
