Welcome to Year 2!
We are very excited to be working with our pupils and yourselves during the year.
Our team consists of 4 staff. Mrs Mitchell - Emerald class teacher, Mrs Bennett - Jade class teacher (Mon - Thurs), Mrs Cleland (Emerald class Thurs, Jade class Fri) and Mrs Lee.
PE Days
PE for Year 2 is on a Tuesday and Thursday. On a Tuesday it will be in the hall and on a Thursday it will be outside. Please ensure that your child wears their PE kit to school on these days along with suitable footwear. As it gets colder can all pupils wear tracksuit bottoms and a long sleeve sweatshirt, both plain navy, on a Thursday.
Reading
We will no longer be sending home reading diaries to record your child's reading in. However the expectation still remains that your child should read 5 times each week. All pupils will have either a RWI book which they have read in phonics or an Accelerated Reader book which they can change when needed. They can also continue to bring home a Bedtime Story book which they can change in class as needed. If you have any queries or concerns regarding your child's reading please contact a member of the team. Please see below for websites and resources which you can access to support your child's reading.
Spellings
Pupils will be tested weekly on their spellings. New spellings will be sent home on a Monday in a spelling book, to be learned by Friday for our weekly test. Pupils will continue to have access to their spellings on Spelling Shed. New log ins will be attached to the inside of your child's spelling book. Please encourage your child to practise these throughout the week. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact a member of the team.
Maths
We will continue to use the Maths No Problem scheme during our daily maths lessons. In addition to this we will also have 2 additional maths sessions where we practice our basic skills such as counting and recalling number pairs and also a times tables session on a Friday morning. Below you will find links to the Maths No Problem parent section where there are some useful videos. Please note that these videos do not all relate to the Year 2 curriculum but to the scheme as a whole.
Forest School
Year 2 will start Forest School after the October half term.
