This fox looks familiar

Still image for this video

Could it be Pompom?

Still image for this video

Still image for this video

Too many leaves

Still image for this video

Interesting smells lets investigate

Still image for this video

Fox with attitude

Still image for this video

Water then turns to ice

Still image for this video
Look at this fluffy fox, first day he comes and visits the water bowl it's still water, but the next day water has turn into ice. He still is having a go at licking the ice. That's why it is important to leave a bowl of fresh water out every day, during a cold spell like this, so all the wildlife can drink something. As you can see temperature was very low.

Disappointed fox is going

Still image for this video

Update 09.12.22

Who put all these leaves here

Still image for this video

Fresh water is always goes down well

Still image for this video

Update 02.12.22

Foxes are on high alert and not taking any chances

Still image for this video
It's mating season, so a lot of territories are being marked, so if you're in the wrong one that might bring trouble. Better be on your guard.

This does not smell OK

Still image for this video

Having a drink

Still image for this video

Another day another drink

Still image for this video

Is this how it is looking for Woodpigeons in the trees

Still image for this video

Update 14.10.22

Why are they always so quick?

Still image for this video

Hello, little hedgehog

Still image for this video
You can help hedgehog this time of year, by putting out a bowl of water and some dry dog/cat food, just so they gain enough fat for hibernation. NEVER give them milk this upsets their tummies.

Take away meal

Still image for this video
What did the fox actually take away, could you see it?

Fox caught a wood pigeon (NOT FOR OUR YOUNGEST PUPILS)

Still image for this video
The fox has caught the pigeon, but how did it catch it, unless it had fallen out of the tree, which seems very unlikely. Foxes do not climb trees, but can jump up to a 2 m high.

Saving something for a rainy day

Still image for this video
When a fox has caught a big meal it will bury (cache) anything that is too much, in this case a wing. It will come back to it later.

Time for a late night snack

Still image for this video
The wing it had bury that morning, is still there. So the fox came back to look for it in the evening, when it was probably hungry.

Time to look after yourself

Still image for this video

Foxes are opportunist, so any chance they can find a free meal they will take advantage off. In this case a trash can with some food remains.

Still image for this video

Fox eating from trash

Still image for this video

Mirror, mirror on the ground, who is the handsomest fox all-around?

Still image for this video

Oh no, the itch is back

Still image for this video

Time to go, or maybe not

Still image for this video

It's finished its business, then it's time to go

Still image for this video

Badger is back after months of no show

Still image for this video
The draught has hit badger populations bad, because 80% of their diet consists of earthworms, which are very hard to come by when the ground is hard as rock.

Update 30.09.22

When you just cannot get rid of that itch

Still image for this video
Foxes can carry fleas, which are usually cat fleas

Can you see what the food is the fox is carrying?

Still image for this video

And another big meal is leaving our school grounds

Still image for this video
It is very likely that our foxes have been keeping our Wood pigeon population under control, looking at the size of food it is carrying and the amount of wood pigeon feather scattered over the school grounds

What's on the floor?

Still image for this video

Time to relax (just take a minute to enjoy this fox having a snooze)

Still image for this video
This fox is feeling right at home by the look of it. It spent nearly 20 min. in the one location. So presumably it feels quite save here.

Forget about the cat, just look at the beetles, they are Devil’s coach-horse beetle

Still image for this video
When they feel threatened they flick their tails up

Hi little hedgehog

Still image for this video

Hedgehog on the move

Still image for this video

Update 15.07.22

Afraid of the water bowl, new fox?

Still image for this video

Can you see what the food is?

Still image for this video

Remember our juvenile fox, much more confident now

Still image for this video
To survive as a fox you have to be on your guard, well this one is a quick learner and is very alert

New fox is getting to know the place

Still image for this video

No water, where is it gone?

Still image for this video

Our little rabbit is still here

Still image for this video

Update 01.07.22

Ron having a browse

Still image for this video

Fluffy fox, look at the fluffy cheeks

Still image for this video

Update 24.06.22

Snail pace

Still image for this video
We normally don't see these very important snails they belong to the group of Mollusks which are a large group of invertebrate animals. They eat decaying waste from plants and other animals and sometimes the eat juice garden plants, which makes the them not very well loved by gardeners.

Hedgehogs on the go

Still image for this video

Fox looking for something to eat

Still image for this video

First time a juvenile fox has come on our school grounds, it is making the most of all the beatles, earthworms and anything else it can find to eat

Still image for this video
This is the time of year that fox cubs are starting to move a way from their den, to look for food. Although this one is slightly early, because normally they will leave the den in July. This could be that due to the draught less food is available at the den site so they have to travel further afield to find food. Sometime the can travel up to 6 km away from their den in one night.

When your scared of your own reflection

Still image for this video
Possibly this is the first time this fox has come across a water bowl and seen its own reflection. There is a big world around him to discover, stay safe little one. It looks rather cute with the big ears.

And this is how it is done, juvenile fox could have learned from this adult fox. Can you see the size difference?

Still image for this video

Update 17.06.22

Rain or shine you still have to go out to get food

Still image for this video

Powerful claws make good diggers

Still image for this video
This badger is digging it's way out of the school grounds

Where's the fire?

Still image for this video

Nosing around

Still image for this video

Roaming our school grounds in search of food

Still image for this video
You can see how early it gets light in the background

Still image for this video

No I'm staying in

Still image for this video

When the water is all gone, you might as well put your paws in the bowls

Still image for this video

Where is the way out?

Still image for this video

Oh there it is

Still image for this video

Fox - cat meeting, how is waiting outside the gate?

Still image for this video

Harvestman

Still image for this video
Although it looks like a long-legged spider, it isn’t one. It is closely related to spiders. Unlike the spiders, it has no silk glands so is not able to spin a web. It does not have fangs and does not produce venom.

It catches its insect prey by using hooks on the ends of its legs. These arachnids defend themselves by secreting a foul-smelling fluid. If they are caught, they are able to shed a leg to escape.

Hedgehog

Still image for this video

Update 20.05.22

It was busy with visiting badgers, we have more than one visiting badger can you see the difference?

Still image for this video

Badgers in reverse

Still image for this video

Fox leaving early in the morning

Still image for this video
We can finally see which colour our visiting fox has.

Wait for it .......................... no not sure

Still image for this video

New fox or Scruffy who's coat is in much better condition?

Update 06.05.22

So many badgers coming in and out

Still image for this video

Hi newbie fox, what's up?

Still image for this video

One very nervous fox trying to get out

Still image for this video
Probably a new visiting fox, trying to get out. You can see it panting of distress at one point. Although foxes can get through holes as little as 13 cm in hight this one is not sure about it.

Bye little hedgehog

Still image for this video

Update 29.04.22

Hedgehog foraging

Still image for this video

Hedgehog on the move

Still image for this video

They seem to show up everywhere

Still image for this video
Hedgehogs are in decline, so that we have some many visiting is good sign, apparently there is lots to eat on our grounds

Take a moment to relax whilst having a look at the hedgehog looking for food

Still image for this video
All is done in the pitch black, so their nose is working overtime looking for beatles, small mice, earthworm etc.

And that is why hedgehogs have spikes (video not for our younger viewers, suitable for pupils in year 5, year 6 and up PG)

Still image for this video
Roling into a ball is a perfect way to survive an attack by a predator. This video is intense to watch, but has some great animal behaviour.

No meal, so you have to find another one

Still image for this video

Ron found a meal as well, presumably a woodmouse, looking at the size of what went in

Still image for this video

It has been really busy with all these badgers coming and going

Still image for this video

Ron having a nose around the branch heap

Still image for this video

Update 01.04.22

Ron is on high alert, but why?

Still image for this video
Look at its pricked up ears and tail curling round, he is looking and listening at something we cannot see.

Ron is being told off, possibly by Ginger defending its territory.

Still image for this video
So who will come out top fox dog? Listen to the sounds they are making and look at their body positions, curly back and ears flat in their necks.

Ron whimpering and feeling pretty sorry for itself

Still image for this video

Still not over the shock

Still image for this video

Badgers in and out

Still image for this video

Still image for this video

Update 25.02.22

On the hunt for some food

Still image for this video

Lucky fox, you have to get your daily proteins to stay healthy

Still image for this video
If the fox can't find any other prey, some juicy earthworms will give it some of the protein it needs, although it probably has to eat a lot.

Ron having a sniff

Update 11.02.22

Still image for this video

You have a leaf on you

Still image for this video

Look who showed up in broad daylight

Still image for this video
As you can see it is on its guard, its all ears and aware of anything that could scare it away. Apart from its deformed leg its a stunning fox a real survivor.

Better make sure all is clear

Still image for this video

No not save to go out that way

Still image for this video

Ron is having second thoughts about leaving

Still image for this video

Ron not satisfied with the state of the water bowls

Still image for this video
This is a very beautiful fox, looks really healthy and well fed with a very warm fluffy fur coat. Is looking very relaxed and unstressed, although its ears are pricked up just in case.

Even in our orchard a fox showed up

Still image for this video

Shouldn't you be hibernating?

Still image for this video
Normally at this time of year hedgehogs are hibernating, but maybe because of the rise in temperature it woke up an decided to get some food. Hopefully it will go back to hibernate.

Update 28.01.22

Bendy Ron

Still image for this video
Did you know that the gap under that fence is only 13 cm heigh, foxes are really good at slithering through small openings, clever foxes

What Ron can do, Scruffy can do as well, even with a painful paw

Still image for this video

Oh no, I'm stuck

Still image for this video

No, not going there

Still image for this video

Time for a yawn

Still image for this video

Still image for this video

Just sit down and think

Still image for this video

Ron having a change of plan

Still image for this video

Who's been here before?

Still image for this video

Still image for this video

Quick sniff and off

Still image for this video

Update 05.11.21

The badger and the fox ……

This is what Fox Behaviour Expert Prof. D Scott thinks is going on:

Looks like the badger is marking it as a territory. The Fox then comes along and tries to bury the badger sent with its nose. Presumably this is because the fox also wants it as a territory due to the fact that it’s on a border and it is the only area where the animals can pass through. So it looks like the fox is trying to cover the scent of the badger.

Lots of foxes visiting

Indicisive badger

This one has a slight limp on the back leg.

Sorry, Mr Fox no school today, but you were on time

Still image for this video
Fox in bright daylight, notice how it is limping and not putting any weight on it. It looks a bit scruffy, hopefully it will be alright.

The Vine's Banquet

Still image for this video
Did you know that earthworms make out a big part of the badger's diet an important source of protein.

Do you want some as well?

Still image for this video

Excuse me! That is not allowed on our schoolgrounds, now leave!

Still image for this video
That's nature for you.

Fox trying to get out

Still image for this video
How many attempts do you think he will do to get out?

Fence biting might help

Still image for this video

Little bit of digging, maybe?

Work those hips

Still image for this video
How unbelievable bendy is this fox? Did you notice how long its tail is, not so bushy yet, it looks quite a young fox.

Badger posing and listening

Still image for this video
Do you notice how small and close to his head his ears are, well adapted for living in a burrow

What did the badger hear?

Where is the food?

Update 07.05.2021

Having repositioned the cameras resulted in new fantastic footage of badgers sniffing and chewing food, put your volume up to get the full experience.

Badger sniffing for food

Still image for this video

He should work on his table manners smacking that loud

Still image for this video

Little bit later still going, he fully relies on his nose to find the food, because it is totally dark

Still image for this video

Looking elsewhere for food, not much luck though

Is there a badger party somewhere?

Still image for this video
Hopefully they social distance. These are three different badgers, can you see the difference?

Badger having a munch

Still image for this video
If you turn the volume up, you can hear it sniffing out the food and eat. It is pitch dark where it is, so it needs its nose to find the food.

Hedgehogs have come out of hibernation

Hedgehog on a mission

Still image for this video
Hedgehogs are really speedy when they are walking. Having foxes and badgers visiting the schoolgrounds, they better walk fast, foxes and badgers being their main predators. Do you know what defence mechanism hedgehogs use to stay safe?

Still image for this video

Little wood mouse nibbling away

Still image for this video

Can you see how big its ears and eyes are all needed to make it a great nocturnal survivor

Still image for this video

Off it goes

Still image for this video
It must feel quite save eating its food on the spot, they normally would take it to their nest.

The badger is back

Still image for this video
To let other badgers know you passed by and this is your territory, you scent mark.

Update 05.03.2021

What is roaming around in the dark?

Still image for this video

Who is our new shy visitor

Still image for this video

Very shy indeed

Still image for this video

Now you can see our new visitor

Still image for this video

Our stunning visitor reveals itself

Still image for this video
As you can see the badger is using its great sense of smell to sniff out any food. As it is pitch dark, it is no wonder it bumps into our wildlife camera which doesn’t cause any interference with the animals.

Off it goes

Still image for this video
After hopefully having eaten enough food, he leaves again to find some more elsewhere, or maybe return to his sett.

Look who came back

Still image for this video

Have a look at how it left

Still image for this video

Can you guess which animal it is? Watch at the right side of the screen carefully, it disappears very quickly, maybe you need to play it more than once to see it.

Look at the lower right side

Have you guessed what animal it is, then look at this clip to be sure
