UNIVERSAL CHILDREN’S DAY 20TH NOVEMBER
20 November every year: Promoting children’s welfare and children’s rights.
The date, 20 November, marks the day in which the UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child in 1959, and the Convention on the Rights of the Child (UN CRC) in 1989. The UN calls on countries to observe Universal Children’s Day as a day to acknowledge the importance of actively promoting the welfare of the world’s children.
All year groups in the school led their own worship; thinking about the Rights of the Child. There were some very interesting discussion happening and the pupils enjoyed the opportunity to share their thoughts and ideas and ask questions.
Here are some of the prayers that the pupils wrote. If you would like to learn more then please look at the power points below.
Dear God, thank you for all the rights we have as children.
We pray for those less fortunate than us.
May all children have shelter to keep them safe.
May all children have an education to give them a better future.
May all children have nutritious food to eat.
May all children have the freedom to play.
May all children have clean water to drink.
May all children be cared for.
